Putting the constitution in ten thousand pockets
A constitution that citizens could rarely obtain in print is now free, searchable and offline on ordinary phones, in both national languages.
The Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland is a public document, but being public and being reachable are not the same thing. Printed copies circulate mainly among lawyers and officials. Official files assume a connection and a device comfortable with large documents.
We built the entire text into a free app in Somali and English, stored on the device so it works with no connection at all, with search so a specific article can be found rather than scrolled to.
It has passed ten thousand downloads on Android alone and is also available on iOS. It cost us engineering time and returns no revenue, which is precisely the point of a social enterprise model: the client work pays for the work that should be free.
