SmartMoney ("we", "our", "us") is a marketplace app that connects buyers and sellers of Somaliland Shilling (SLSH) in Hargeisa, Somaliland. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. SmartMoney is operated by Tiriig Technology, headquartered in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use SmartMoney:
- Phone number — used to create your account and verify your identity via one-time passcode (OTP).
- Profile information — your name as displayed to other users on the platform.
- Listing data — the type (buy/sell), amount, neighborhood, and any notes you include when creating a listing.
- Transaction history — records of your completed exchanges, offers made and received, and credit top-up activity.
- Device information — device model, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting and service improvement.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Verify your identity and authenticate your account via OTP.
- Display your name and rating to other users so they can make informed exchange decisions.
- Facilitate the matching of buyers and sellers by displaying your listings on the marketplace.
- Process credit top-ups and deduct service fees when offers are accepted.
- Provide you with a history of your transactions and exchange activity.
- Improve the app's performance, fix issues, and develop new features.
- Communicate important updates about your account or the service.
Phone Number Sharing
Your phone number is never publicly visible. It is only shared with another user after both parties have mutually agreed to an exchange — that is, after a listing owner accepts an offer. This allows the two parties to coordinate the in-person exchange.
Outside of this specific scenario, your phone number is not displayed anywhere in the app and is not shared with any third party.
Payments and Financial Data
SmartMoney does not process currency exchange payments. All SLSH exchanges happen directly between users, off-platform and in person. SmartMoney's role is limited to connecting buyers and sellers.
Credit top-ups are processed through third-party mobile money providers (Zaad and eDahab). SmartMoney does not store your mobile money PIN, account balance, or payment credentials. We only record the transaction result (success or failure) and the credit amount added to your SmartMoney balance.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with encryption in transit and at rest. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
Your authentication token is stored locally on your device. If you log out, all local session data is cleared.
Data Retention
We retain your account information and transaction history for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records for legal or regulatory purposes.
Third-Party Services
SmartMoney may use the following third-party services:
- Mobile money providers (Zaad, eDahab) — to process credit top-up payments.
- Analytics services — to understand app usage patterns and improve the service. These services may collect anonymized usage data.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data stored by SmartMoney.
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile.
- Delete your account and associated personal data.
- Withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of the app.

The "Effective" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of SmartMoney after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
